This article is wrong, the individual State Delegations cannot unilaterally reject their state’s slate of electors. It takes a majority vote from each chamber to reject electors. All Pence did was follow what had been done in most elections, he entertained objections. None of these objections would have been successful.
The most troubling thing Pence did was issue the letter where he declared he was powerless to stop the steal. The letter was a reckless act in an already charged atmosphere. It was completely unnecessary unless you were trying to lend plausibility to the false flag by providing a reason for MAGA supporters to be angry. No letter, no motive.
Interesting.
Cates could be saying that the States (collective) have a choice to debate the issues and choose whether or not to withdraw the Biden electors. But in saying "THEIR Biden electors" he is implying that yes, individual states could choose alone, which I think you're correct in pointing out is not the case.
However, the core premise of the article - that Pence did nothing 'wrong' per say. Pence did not do anything not legal.
Also, the premise of the article is that in fact, it's Kabuki. Which seems a very solid perspective. You're suggestion that Pence's action in the letter is troubling only makes sense if the premise if Kabuki is wrong. If it's right, then the letter is just part of the play.
Do you agree or disagree with the basic premise of the article, that Pence is simply working with Trump and taking a necessary 'legal' course that in fact sets up the DS?
Disagree. The same end result of letting the steal happen could have been achieved without the letter. Pence could have gone through the same motions, made it appear he was trying to stop the steal, but blocked by procedure.
The letter served one purpose, to set up the narrative that MAGA had motive to attempt an insurrection. Without that letter the false flag would have been pointless because MAGA would have believed at that time we still had a chance to prevail. Where Pence and the DS miscalculated is over 99.9% of MAGA was wise to the potential for a false flag. Only a mere handful of MAGA supporters took the bait.
The false flag timing was not to block the potential for Congress to reject Arizona’s electors, that would not happen, the Dems had the votes. The purpose was to prevent compelling evidence of fraud being entered into the record. It provided the cover to disband and return later with the excuse to dispense with meaningful challenges and rubber stamp the steal.
