I don't think Hank done it this way.
Waylon. Cannot. Be. Topped.
Yes. Especially when he gets on that rolling picking thing he does with his git-ar. Nobody plays like that.
But, also, Merle.
Merle at Austin City Limits
And a duet with his hero Marty Robbins (Merle named his son Marty because of him).
EDIT: I need to add in this version of "Devil Woman" where Merle does his impression of Marty with Marty sitting right next to him. It's very funny.
And a fun little one showing how versatile he was.
But back to Waylon, who is this young fresh face?
The only Daddy that walked the line.
Thanks, DJ Marvin. That’s some legendary tunage right there. Believe me when I tell you can guarantee I saw that ACL the night it aired, I was raised right in Texas. And you know what sucks?! “Country” music has sucked for so long that when Waylon died, it took KID ROCK to mention it at an awards ceremony not long after. And this was when Kid was still young and dumb. Man, you don’t know what you got til it’s gone
Lucky indeed to see that ACL. Lucky indeed.
I was raised with it, but too young to have been in those crowds. Am grateful to my Dad for teaching me.
Country music mostly sucks now. But there are some glimmers of hope. Chris Stapleton, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats (not strictly country, but "country-adjacent"), Old Crow Medicine Show (more "Bluegrass Sung by Meth Heads" but it's very good, I swear), and some others.
There ain't no new Hank out there. Or Waylon or Willie or Merle. Not that I've heard/seen.
They all flew away on Silver Wings.
Cannot should be 2 words, if only for an extra period & the effect of your beautiful sentence! Lol
Upchurch and gangstergrass just sayin
And for those poor souls who haven't really ever heard real country music, start here (the concert from which the song above is taken).
