There are SO MANY reasons to keep electric vehicles a SMALL percentage of the overall fleet. For instance,

• Horrifying environmental damage from mining & processing the necessary materials for the batteries
• More environmental damage from DISPOSING of old or damaged batteries
• Skyrocketing costs of rare Earth and other materials (which are already scarce) as the number of EV's grows exponentially
• Imagine having to replace the "gas tank" on your car after 7 or 8 years for $25,000 -- or trying to SELL your used car around that time when buyers know your old Tesla or whatever needs a new "gas tank" soon that costs more than the used car ITSELF.
• California has ALREADY had to ask people to NOT charge their electric vehicles during near-brownout conditions. Electric grids WILL NOT be able to handle the massive growth in EVs now being engineered
• CA, and other states and entire nations, are shifting more of their electric generation to Wind and Solar, which . . . don't work well AT ALL for centralized, base power, 24-hour grids.
• Because Solar and Wind are intermittent, batteries are needed to store power for night time and low-wind periods. Big, BIG batteries. Batteries need replacement regularly, for big $. Maintenance and repair of wind turbines and solar farms is also costly.
• Imagine attempting a long-distance trip in an EV (see this Car&Driver article for real-life info). Oops! That charging station you JUST made it to is broken. Out of service. Or you're in line behind three other cars, all waiting for a 3-hour charge. And you don't have enough charge to reach the NEXT maybe-useless charging station. Enjoy your trip!
• Think the Canadian truckers would be ABLE to do what they're doing if most big trucks were electric? Of course not. And that's not even considering how poorly-suited EVs are to sub-zero weather.
• Etc.

Long before 2030, I expect this looming disaster to become clear to Ford, to every other automaker, and to the general public. This is another HUGE mistake being pushed by government money & incentives that will further kneecap America and the West if not ended soon. Of course, for those at the top who are pushing this, it's not a mistake; it's a very profitable part of the plan.
