The Red Seal diesel mechanic clued me in.

They were doing some freaky binding pact and someone must have chickened out.

He's naked (cut loose financially and the blackmail is gonna come out) and ran.

That's my take anyway. These comms are really hard because they aren't so much symbolic as they are referential, which I'm less adept at translating.
