I graduated from nursing school in 1973. Back then to get your BSN, you had to take 3 semesters of English, 3 of chemistry, 2 of physical education, and a statistics course. I am not sure what curriculums are now, but I found the chemistry, statistics, and physical education to be worthless and unnecessary. Wouldn’t it be smart to at least have one semester of critical thinking in nursing? Give a patient’s symptoms, blood work, etc. and have students decide what steps they should take. Instead today, none of the newer nurses want to think, they want to be told what to do. I know nurses who couldn’t even write a care plan for a patient.
Copy and paste. No one wants to take a risk. Everything is prepopulated. Only 1 semester of sciences with labs and yes. State was worthless.
