The charges they cited at first was "aiding and abetting in mischief", IIRC. I'm not sure the exact legal definition of mischief but knew someone back in high school that was caught breaking a bus shack window and he got charged with "Mischief under 5000$," which implies to me that the crime involves a damage component.
