75 students, or 7.5 percent signed the petition to end religious programs. So, a minority tail wagging the dog, again. The event was voluntary, and as long as freedom of speech is still sacred, then this event can happen.
Someone should explain that the Separation of Church and State meant and means that the state shall not establish a state religion (as in England, for instance.) It does not mean that all religion should automatically be banned from a school or that Christian (or children of other religions) have no right to practice their religion while on school grounds. It just means the state can't establish one religion as the 'state sanctioned' religion.
