As a military or law enforcement officer you should never follow illegal mandates from you superior. Just make sure you have your butt covered when they try to take revenge because that is the kind of people you are dealing with.

I know she must have been caught off guard by the visit but it would have been great had she asked 'under what authority and to what purpose' are the police allocating resources to watch FB? And exactly where in the Canadian Constitution / Charter does it say it's acceptable to spy on citizens? If the woman who was visited didn't know those things were happening before (sounds like she didn't) she sure does now.
