CPR works by blowing out by one person directly into another person, and it can save lives. There's a good amount of unconverted oxygen, nitrogen that was already in the air, and of course some carbon dioxide coming out each breath. But lungs are far from 100% effective, so you're still breathing out a good amount of the oxygen you took into your lungs. It's why CPR works and does save lives despite breathing out directly into another person's lungs.
