I was reading historical books about Africa. Cannibalism was REALLY common in Africa in the 1800s. That place was really nothing like Wakanda.
There is a horrifying image running around of some shithole African "nation" from recent times as in last few years. Cannibal in pic eating human leg from knee down. People around him apathetic like this happens every day. Do you think that behavior would have been tolerated in the Belgian, Boer, or British settlements?

in the Australia region, too. Also, in in tribe in south Florida, the shipwrecked Spanish crew were eaten and the 2 sailors who escaped told about it. To be fair, if I was in WW2 and starving like so many did, I'd gladly cook the enemy soldier up for a meal. Evidence gone!
