I agree, they may have the moral high ground if it is a self defense matter. However, claiming that high ground might be more costly than just letting themselves be arrested, which they apparently recognize.

Eventually they will have to. Tyranny is only playing games with them right now but has no intention of conceding. The mask will come off and peaceful protestors will be injured/killed........and then the deep breath before the plunge.
