I do feel for everyone having to or had to endure government's attempt to take away rights and freedoms in the name of covid. A lot of freedom here in USA comes from the state we live in rather than the federal government. If it were up to federal government there probably wouldn't be any freedom anywhere on the entire planet.
Because this country is more like a union of states combined to form a country, each state retains a lot of power to protect its citizens from the federal government but not every country is designed to allow individual states, provinces, territories, etc to have much power.
Like here in Florida, this state isn't dependent on federal funds like some states are. I believe Florida being a major tourism destination probably helps the state generate more revenue especially from sales taxes. It also greatly depends on what county you live in and what city you live in also within a state.
Some cities and counties spend tax dollars from sales tax to actually benefit citizens but some cities and counties don't spend that tax money to benefit its citizens. Freedom begins locally though and that is why people struggle to have freedom because too many believe we have to care about who is at the top of the power in our countries.
Local and state level officials can protect its citizens from federal government if they choose to. The governor here in FL one time said he'd go to war with the federal government if ever needed to protect citizens in FL but most states either won't stand up against federal government or side with federal government.
Great points! I do miss Florida, and almost moved back but decided on TN instead. I just want to retire in peace as I've seen too much war in my life. Alas, if required I'll go to war again against tyranny so for now I do my best here.
I just want to live in peace and be left alone but government and other people don't like to stay out of other people's business. Anyone that has studied history around the world will know that we cannot trust police, we cannot trust military, we cannot trust government, and sometimes we cannot even trust our neighbors.
The problem is actually getting enough people together that actually gives a shit, to get anything done. People don't want to risk losing anything in their life that they've obtained but if people continue living that way then government might take everything from them when there are no more options left to fight against government.
People have to learn that freedom is not free. It requires time, patience, and sometimes sacrifice in different forms. Power corrupts even honest people so government cannot ever be trusted even with honest people in government. It's up to the people to keep government from getting out of control.
We the people are all that matters in the world. Government does not matter but government sure thinks it matters. The world would keep on going without government but without we the people growing crops, providing food, delivering goods, stocking stores, etc then the world would fall apart.
We cannot ever go back to how things were hundreds of years ago because the population has exploded far too much. Everyone can't be a farmer and grow their own food because the cost is unaffordable unless supplies purchased in bulk which farmers are able to do. The supply chain is required because of population growth and the only way to fix that would be to kill off a large portion of the population which we don't want so we have to protect the supply chain of things.
All this☝🏼 We the People have become complacent over the decades, and let them do whatever. The kettle’s whistlin tho, and the fire’s hot.
