John Galt (/ɡɔːlt/) is a character in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged (1957). Although he is not identified by name until the last third of the novel, he is the object of its often-repeated question "Who is John Galt?" and of the quest to discover the answer. Also, in the later part it becomes clear that Galt had been present in the book's plot all along, playing several important roles though not identified by name.
As the plot unfolds, Galt is acknowledged to be a philosopher and inventor; he believes in the power and glory of the human mind, and the rights of individuals to use their minds solely for themselves. He serves as a highly individualistic counterpoint to the collectivist social and economic structure depicted in the novel, in which society is based on oppressive bureaucratic functionaries and a culture that embraces mediocrity in the name of egalitarianism, which the novel posits is the end result of collectivist philosophy.
There are so many parallels between her great book and what is going on today...I coincidentally just finished reading this for the second time, but the first was in high school, where I was more interested in partying and getting laid...lol... definitely got more out of the book this time!
Was her book made into a movie? Wondering where you found this.
That's great, thanks... I'll check this out.
I am Galt. I left the rat race behind almost 20 years ago. I live in my own Galt's Gulch, far away from everyone I once knew. I have my library, my garden, my preps, my computer, and my own work for my own benefit. Everything is being documented for the future.
I bought "Atlas Shrugged" over 50 years ago.
I fled DC recently after many decades. I’m in the final phases of reprogramming myself. I’m gonna have an excellent garden and a beautiful black sky.
Atlas Shrugged is a good book for breaking the programming.
It’s in my library.
Free to Choose by Milton Friedman is great too It's on Youtube
I'm actually planning to start this year's garden in a few days. I wouldn't be able to take living in DC. I can only drive there with a navigator and paper maps. But it's easier to drive there than in Philadelphia. I've always been a small town person.
Here's some advice from an older person. Get up every morning. Do something every day. Learn something every day. Try new things when you can. Take care of your health.
I'm up at 0500; I work; everyday is for learning something new; and health - I run 3 mi/day and light strength training. I had to change my diet and drop 20 lbs after a near miss with a heart attack last year (no vax, blocked coronal artery). So yes, I have been doing everything to stay healthy and alive. Thanks fren,
PS - I hate Philly.
Amazing the marvelous things humans can accomplish when they've got a lot more "free" time on the hands
One big fecal stain here, and that is the part about not seeking forgiveness of your sins. That goes directly against The Bible and God. We know "God Wins", so this falls short in my book.
45th updoot!!💥🐸🎉
