My mom just called to tell me that she heard an easy explanation of russia/ukraine stuff. Her words:
"Russia is like a crazy ex boyfriend who beats the shit out of Ukraine and wont let her have friends. (Us, europe, etc). Now the crazy ex boyfriend is back to beat her again but her friends wont let him beat her up this time."
I think my jaw hit the floor. 🤣🤣🤣 I was like wait... what?!
Shes a boomer who sticks on fb and news so I shouldnt have been surprised but 🤦🏼♀️ The bad thing is shes hardcore conservative! I guess thats why I was shocked she just ran with that angle.
I've been using this analogy to good success:
A company can't easily be sued when it declares bankruptcy.
So there's incentive to never end the bankruptcy procedure, even though a bankruptcy might have finally run its course. Just never file the final paperwork, and now you have an added level of protection.
Who's gonna stop you?
Same thing is happening with Ukraine, but as it pertains to international sovereignty laws.
The Ukraine splits away from Russia after the Soviet Union fell apart.
They begin all the work to apply for international aid to become its own sovereign nation and get benefits and exemptions from certain international laws and procedures.
Why file the final paperwork? Just continue to keep getting the benefits and string it along as far as they'll let you.
However... Russia, on paper, still has to foot the bill and blame if anything happens in Ukraine.
So the Ukraine is now a parasite, still technically a part of Russia, and even able to claim Russian citizenship in some cases, but Russia can't stop them from exploiting Russian interests because the Ukraine is still not a part of the NATO agreements.
Ukraine is effectively a non-nation able to break and follow any rules it pleases under the auspices of "we are still transitioning to a sovereign nation."
