When you see GMO think subscription food. Much of the plant based food supply dependent on seeds only good for 1 generation of plant. Seeds non-viable on new plant to grow another generation. How do you like them apples?
Apples make my gums itchy so I don't like them!
But yes you are correct. Also, if the seeds accidentally grow on a neighboring property, owners of those properties have gotten in trouble!
Science fiction story called The Windup Girl. Heck of a read, future world economies controlled by agribusiness that reward & punish countries with seed or no seed. Everyone concerned about calories. Quite an eye opener -

/everyone should have a selection of heirloom seeds
What about heirloom seeds? I've seen those mentioned.
Plant heirloom tomato seeds
Grow tomato plants
Plant new tomato plant seeds
Grow new tomato plants
Repeat
They're seeds that are good for more than one generation of food?
heirlooms will grow the same plant variety and produce seeds and continue to grow generation after generation. If they get pollinated from a nearby gmo crop it can effect the next generation of seeds though, and ruin heirloom crops. Gmo can destroy all food on earth.
Correct. You can harvest your plants and save the seed as long as you like.
Yep, save the best fruit for next yrs crop. I been doing it for yrs. Baker creek heirlooms.
Baker Creek is my go-to every single year. My seed collection is ginormous lol.
