Tesla is basically a corporate ponzi scheme. They will put out a press release about a new project, hype will skyrocket, investors will dump truckloads of money, project fizzles out, Tesla announces a new project, repeat. Solar roofs went nowhere. Hyper loop went nowhere. boring tunnel leads to traffic jams and is boring. Star link would require more satellites than currently exist by orders of magnitude and would clutter up the space around earth to such a degree that we would never be able to leave the planet again, would cost more to put the satellites up than Tesla is worth, and would cost more to maintain that what they are planning to charge.
Starlink is already in use in North America
The starlink satellites are small and don’t have very large coverage area or bandwidth. Elon says that he would need to launch 42,000 satellites for full global coverage. He’s launched 1970 so far since 2019. The satellites have a five year life expectancy. In order to keep up with that, he would need to launch 8400 new satellites every year to replace the old ones. He is able to launch 50 per launch. He would need to do a launch every other day. Every year.
That may be true, but this speed test looks quite good. Sorry for the plebbit link. https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/t2iwfu/starlink_is_the_best_just_took_this_while_playing/
What app or device in the world, other than in the gov't, requires a "230g" update? I'm assuming they meant 230 GB?
I would understand the app/program itself is 230 GB but an UPDATE?!
And the satellite just stays up there when they’re out of commission? More space trash?
Well they are in a very low earth orbit so they would most likely crash down to earth. I think that is the reason for both the 5 year lifespan as well as the need for 42,000 satellites instead of 3 like other telcom companies use.
I imagine they would fall under maritime salvage laws.
You have no clue about anything Tesla. It's almost funny.
