There were signs that it's not an organic mutation though. Apparently it's genetically more similar to the very first variants of COVID, not derived from the more recent ones. Also the number of mutations seemed too large for it to just pop up out of nowhere. (I'm not a biologist though, this is just what I've heard/read I can't confirm any of it.)
It's possible that it's been chugging along independently on its own parallel development path as a community disease in South Africa (or wherever), but it seems strange that it would then suddenly explode and replace Delta almost overnight globally.

Yh I agree with what you said, I think some scientist just came out and said we have a found a new variant and its milder, then news of it spread.
It is strange that they let a mild version of COVID replace all the fear porn of delta. As straight away it gave us arguments that COVID is dying.
I dont think they wanted the narrative dying the way Omicron made it do
