Ukraine literally occupies a small piece of what was once Khazaria. It's all that's left. It was much larger.

Yeah, I always thought that Khazaria was centred on Astrakhan in the Volga valley and that's in Russia, way east of Ukaine, Right next to Kazakhstan.
