The TL;DR is it works and its been used since the advent of the motion picture by cutting in single frames of sodas and popcorn to increase sales. The subconscious would catch the 1 in 24 frames per second. Much more sophisticated tech is used now by inserting frequencies, subsonic, partial image, text, etc. into key frames, blanking intervals, etc. See HuLu patent.
last year listened to a talk between Corey Digs and Catherine Austin Fitts re: disconnecting from the technology matrix and the reality of subliminal content actively being used (according to them).

Broooo..... I was a marketing/economics major for the first two years I was in college.
I ended up taking mushrooms during finals week (lol they gave us like a full week of "reading days", where we didn't have classes and all the free time was for us to allocate in preparation for exams the following week so it was just one day out of that week).
And I began having intense revelations from rereading the same few pages out of my marketing textbook, about how much outright MK-ULTRA style mind control, mass manipulation tactics were being openly discussed in my textbook.
I was in complete shock as I reread the same few pages over and over but with the filter of my usual normalcy bias removed. A few of the key points I'll always remember from that unit in my textbook was openly saying things (although in a sophisticated and scholarly manner that would normally go unnoticed), such as:
"These advanced marketing strategies we will discuss in depth in this unit have been cultivated over decades of research in some of the most controversial topics in social engineering."
"Because of the highly prestigious academic institution you have been fortunate enough to find yourself a part of, we entrust these strategies to you in hopes that you will understand the simple reality of life that there will always be winners and losers."
"The morality of these advanced conditioning models require a nuanced and open minded understanding--something we ensure has been instilled in you by this point in your academic career".
I'm paraphrasing of course, but never before had I picked up on such obvious admission of teaching content that would be very much akin to mass mind control, while also acknowledging that only the rich upper class will be allowed to be taught this level of content.
This whole experience ended up convincing me to change out of the Marketing major and pursue Psychology instead as my core focus, in hopes that I could learn more about these mass manipulation concepts as a whole, instead of studying the art of how to apply them to deliberately deceive unsuspecting working class people into giving you their hard earned money.
TLDR: Marketing is so deliberately deceptive and I had a profound experience in college from taking mushrooms in which I was able to fully see the level of deception being openly discussed in my marketing textbook.
Edward Bernays is considered the modern father of public relations, which is a parallel field to marketing and advertising. All 3 deal with manipulating people to buy or act. Bernays was Freud's nephew. The "dark arts" are often kept in the family.
This is also why when you peel back the curtains there is very little daylight between advertising, psychology, and MK ULTRA related subprojects which dealt with manipulation of the masses.
I haven't met anyone in real life I could discuss this kind of stuff with since one of my best friends and I embarked deep into the pick up artist community in high school.

I took some of those classes. Kinda wrecked my life as once you know how it works you can't help but see it everywhere.
