You could USE HCQ if you could get it. But hospitals and doctors generally would not prescribe it, so if you were stuck in a hospital you were screwed, and even if you were still "free" and outside a hospital you needed an Rx because HCQ isn't available over the counter in the Land of the Free, like it is in much of the world.
Doctors could prescribe it (or ivermectin) but were very strongly encouraged (and threatened) not to.
