I'm 100% off grid solar and I can say it is what you make of it. If you're a bit remote like me you need to be your own utility support and electrician. But the benefits are definitely there if you invest in the knowledge and the work.

I'd never go with a grid tied system personally, still too much reliance on the powers that be and too many snake oil salesmen in that space. Right now I have total control over how I want my systems to run for our purposes.
