Yes, and they can always say it's because the grid is unstable at that time. The perfect excuse to stop everyone in a region from charging or to empty their cars for the "greater good" of the grid.
Except there is no difference between running a washing machine and charging a car.
one wash might use a kilowatt-hour or two. A car charge might use 40 kilowatt hours and draw a higher current while doing so.
One wash uses closer to three, which is the equivalent of charging that car to go 12 miles.
Yes, that sounds about right to me.
