This is interesting because The Ottawa Citizen had an article in early January 2020 about the hospital morgue being so full that they were putting dead bodies into board rooms. I'll never forget reading it because it had a quote from an admin person who went to have a meeting and there were stretchers with full body bags on them.
I think this is the "dry tinder" effect where, because 2018 was such a mild flu season and there were less than usual deaths of the elderly, in late 2019/early 2020 more than average elderly people died, possibly of covid. 2020 still had no excess mortality compared to prior years, though.
