Voter ID itself isn’t racist, but the fear is the way it will be implemented.
As I’ve understood, there don’t seem to be any intentions for them to be freely distributed to the legal voters who don’t currently have a drivers license/passport (both of which you’d have to pay for)
If these were free, then I don’t think the racism issue would come up
I understand that for many people voter ID is no issue, because they have a valid ID on them.
There IS though a portion of the population that, with voter ID laws, will be ineligible to vote, despite meeting every other requirement, which means they will have to take necessary steps that will likely involve some sort of fee in order to get the right ID, meaning essentially they are paying to vote
Among this group, the majority of them are non-white.
If voter ID's were freely distributed to these people without any additional cost, then I don't think may people would have an issue. The fact is there doesn't seem to be any intention of doing that, hence the racism argument getting played
If you think that in theory it should be okay for the government to charge people to vote then that's pretty fucked up.
Yeah I'm sure that'll never backfire. We should just trust them to make voting IDs easy to get right? I'm sure nobody corrupt will come into power and charge exorbitant fees to get IDs issued in counties that don't align with their politics...

You are wrong. They have been using racism as a weapon so long, and it has been so effective for so long that they will never give it up.
And there are other forms of ID that are accepted besides a drivers license. Lots of big city people don't drive but still vote.

You are pushing the standard liberal talking points. Save it for your buddies that believe the same. You won't sell that bullshit here.
BTW: You should choose a different user name. Something like headstillplantedfirmlyinass would be more appropriate.

That's not what I meant. I mean the way they are distributed. The fear is they would not distributed easily and freely to the legal citizens.
Nope, I don't. But if any people have to pay in order to get the ID, then I think it's wrong.
