How many here are too young to have even heard a modem sound? I work with young software developers who can’t even fathom not having a laptop and Internet connection while getting their degree. I just missed punch cards but got to do CS 1 with 11” floppies!

My friend blew my motherfucking mind when he told me you could remove the speaker for the modem. I never realized that noise didn't come from your normal desktop speakers but from a tiny one in the case. After doing a search it turns out you could have just disabled it through the windows settings lmao. Man we were so smart but soooo dumb.
