I was curious about this, because I've seen it used before but didn't know why. Here's the top of Google for ya:
In finance and accounting. This guide will, MM (or lowercase “mm”) denotes that the units of figures presented are in millions. The Latin numeral M denotes thousands. Thus, MM is the same as writing “M multiplied by M,” which is equal to “1,000 times 1,000”, which equals 1,000,000 (one million).
kind of enough for an understanding, but not entirely correct. in roman numerals, MM would mean 2,000, not 1000 x 1000. in finance, capital M denotes million whereas lower case m, denotes thousand, but mm does denote thou times thou. not trying to be a dick, just clarifying to be helpful,
No problem, I was just passing along what Google offered, and we all know how that goes. I'm glad someone was able to put Google in it's expected place 🤣
mm denotes millimetres in any English-speaking country other than America.
