Did canonical make the code change?

I used to use ubuntu but then switched to mint when they brought out unity. I've been switching between mint/centos/debian/tails since.

I use Mint (on a Macbook Air!!!) and considering switching to Manjaro to move away from the Ubuntu base. Doubting they'll listen to the message in the OP's letter but worth a shot.

Ubuntu DP is a certified Canonical partner and is based in Ukraine. Its a good system but doesn't have any support forums at all.
