Yet another bomb when they wear out and have zero resale value because the batteries are ludicrously expensive
The battery on mine has a lifespan of 300k-500k miles
Bigger spread than Kamala's...
Maybe under optimal "laboratory" settings... There was a stickie the other day that crushed the green-ness of ev's. Never charge over 80% and never discharge below 20% of capacity, otherwise degradation occurs. Cold weather dramatically reduces range. Don't park it in the sun, cause the heat will damage the batteries. Also sub zero temps are bad for lithium chemistry cells longevity. "Super" charging also stresses the cells.
Basic real world range was around 120 miles round trip. Sure you could push the limit to max, but then your battery won't last 100k
Degradation always occurs. "Over" charging and discharging can accelerate it, but it's always going to be the "over" due to the pressure of packing it full of more energy.
Same as any battery, and also why smartphones with fast charging only do so up to a point. It gets hot, fast because it requires more to pack it in the last ~20%.
Heat is the biggest factor, and that is more common on the high end.
Unfortunately this is one reason of many why our current battery technology is not so sustainable; they just don't last.
Within the first couple years of owning a phone for example you will have lost a lot of capacity for your battery. This suits businesses because then you'll trade it back in for a discount on a new phone you probably wouldn't have bought for another year or two. But it's bad for the environment and bad for the consumer.
TL;DR: We needed to improve energy efficiency and technologies elsewhere long before we tried to push the adoption of electrical cars, instead of throwing darts at a board with various ways of fucking everyone over.
But don't worry! Unneeded updates render usable/serviceable equipment (phones) useless after a few years anyway
Sounds to me Teslas would not be a good car to have in AZ. You have to park your car in the sun at certain places. Summer, our nights get down to the high 80s/low 90s, I wonder how that affects the battery.
I charge 100% if I know im going for a long drive. so i get 500km instead of like 420. That is really no big deal. Since there are so many superchargers, charging to 100 is useless to me. About discharging to under 20, I am not aware Teslas have that issue.
There have been people that only supercharge and they do not show any problems that people expected.
I bought a large battery AWD tesla to deal with the winter. The range loss doesn't concern me at all.
This is with the old tesla batteries. The new ones are much better and will blow people away.
I am aware that there are other EVs that suck. I agree with that, the competition to Tesla SUCKS and I'l glad cause I invested on the company.
