I actually received a Preservation Notice a few years ago when I worked at a large university. There was a troubled employee in our department, somewhat on the schizophrenic side, and she had been sending bizarre and vaguely threatening emails to the chancellor of the university and to our department head. All of us in our department received the Preservation memo, as the administration was working up a legal case to fire her.
So we were told not to delete or alter any emails between us and this employee. I'm sure they were already collected by IT folks, but I think it was part of the legal activities to show how "proactive" the university was in "eliminating a threat."
She was just a sad, lost soul, rather harmless in my estimation, and a bit delusional, but they went to extraordinary lengths like putting locks on the doors of our building, providing escorts to anyone who wanted them before and after work.... typical bureaucratic overreach and paranoia. Last I heard she had moved way out west, New Mexico I think, and was heard of no more.
I pray she got the help she needed and that she is now having a wonderful life outside of the bureaucrats and paranoid people. I used to work at a mental health facility for a time, and mainly these people need a little love and understanding, and a promise that there is someone there who will help them. I do admit though; that there are those who tend to need medication and do go a little whacko at times; but not all are dangerous.
Yes, well I failed to mention that she was also under psychiatric care and on several medications to control her mental equilibrium. Her meds failed her from time to time, however. I too in my younger years had worked in a mental health facility for drug and alcohol abuse, and had seen many, many patients go through the system. So I had developed a sort of sixth-sense about who would be harmless and who we would have to keep a wary eye on. In the case of this university employee, I felt that she was completely harmless except possibly to herself.
Yes. Once a person has worked with these patients firsthand, they have the tendency to know who is harmless and who to keep an eye on. God bless you for seeing the good in her.
New Mexico is a good place for crazies to go. When they eventually become homeless, Bill Richardson takes care of them.
Gasp, how dare people take care of homeless people...

Yeah, she moved to NM and is now dating Hunter Biden.
