I have always questioned the story. I remember asking my 5th grade teacher-- why would they go through all of that trouble just to tear down everything immediately after? She was of the same mindset and said that the maintenance upkeep was probably too much. I never was satisfied with that answer. In fact, in 2005, I was at the site of the StL World Expo walking along a hillside near a dried up creek and found the hand of a statue partially sticking out of the dirt. This hand is solid with a porcelain glaze - definitely not a temporary fixture. I don't buy the narrative for a second.
Haven't watched the video yet (maybe this is mentioned?) but there was a serial killer who had a hotel built, and was able to kill a bunch of people in connection with the Chicago World's Fair. There's a book on it called "Devil in the White City," by Erik Larson.
This a rabbit hole I've just ventured into and wow, it is unbelievable....worth the time if you enjoy history...
Well there's the Tomorrowland movie lol. I watched that recently after learning about Plus Ultra in regard to a Trump time travelling connection. Movie wasn't that bad and it gives you an out of the box spin for world fairs lol.
