Note: call sign was changed midflight, over Philadelphia. it flew for a bit longer with n/a callsign, and then ended up in a field...maybe error from the site?

Only designated Air Force 1 when the President is on board. As Biden was on this flight it could have been Air Farce 1 as the President was not on board.
I remember watching someone a while back say Philadelphia will be the new capitol of the new Republic (forgot the proper name). Maybe something uniform going on here?

its my understanding that if the president is on-board it HAS to be AF1 callsign. I was doing some searching too, apparently Reagans callsign was changed from af1 midflight because of resignation. fingers crossed right? lol. probably just site error though.
They frequently do not used the AF1 or AF2 call signs within the US. It (well for me at least) has become rare to see the AF1 or AF2 call sign in use over the US.Maybe its some obscure legal this about impersonating the President of the United States. Think Biden's blurred out podium on his twatter account or the reference to him on PTUS account as 'Government Official'
I've been following Monkey Werx (planefag guru) for years and have picked up some tidbits along the way. My understanding is that If POTUS is on board an aircraft (AF1 or Marine One) then it should be squawking accordingly, but my understanding is that there are built-in exceptions to that, such as when the threat level is high, when POTUS is entering airspace that's unprotected/high risk, etc. - or when the passenger isn't REALLY the president. ;-)
I saw one time (via Monkey Werx) when there was a known threat on the White House during Trump's presidency and jets were scrambled to get Trump out of there. Trump's plane was not squawking as "AF1" during that time.

It didn't only change over Philly, I watched both the Presidential flights 747 (82 - 800) and the 757 (900015) which were flying back together from Europe, land into Mildenhall UK a few hours ago and neither were using the C/S AF1.
