Not sure how much intel/sources Maxey has but in the first 8 minutes of this video, Maxey's exact words were "Hunter was trying to clean things up in the LAST YEAR OF HIS LIFE." (at 7:45)

Yeah, if it's not an accurate statement that he's dead, then it's sloppy wording on Maxeys part.
I am guessing you are right.
But then Trump... "anyone see Hunter?".
But, there was also the audio of Hunter saying "I cut a deal".
