I can easily see the negativity and false sense of confidence here on this message board. I come here mostly for news, but I do know quite a bit about a couple of subjects. Whenever I offer an opinion, especially about controversial issues, inevitably, I'll get others calling me names and making personal attacks. Excuse me for having an opinion?
On a community message board, there's often very little sense of community. Because of the anonymity of the internet, and polarization of viewpoints, there's no incentive to preserve or otherwise protect personal contacts. There are no consequences for bad behavior.
Another thing I see here, somewhat suggested by the video, is the number of members who are obsessed with social media, either posting some smackdown they made on Reddit or 4Chan, or how many views/updoots they have, or what number they are on the Truth Social waiting list, or something stupid happening at the Oscars. It's as if some folks live and breathe by their phones, and the relative importance of things they see on the web is made ridiculously more important than things that really matter...even one's personal sanity.
Everything online (and offline, because both are ultimately reflections / expressions of one another), is, in its most truest sense, an echo chamber. Filled to the brim with people (egos) seeking validation, because (self) validation and circle-jerking is the way of the hive mind. Any dissenting is frowned upon, and dissenters are attacked and / or eliminated (physically even, when it comes to the offline world). The maturity and wisdom to accept, or even as much as listen to other perspectives is missing. So what you have, in absolutely any group discussion setting wherein humans are involved by way of casual conversation, is people basically nodding their heads in agreement to utterly everything that is being said. This very place is no different, although no one on here (or elsewhere) is ever going to admit that, barring a notable few exceptions of course. Because fuck the very existence of criticism and alternative viewpoints.
Without dissent, there is no growth. Without dissent, there is no sovereignty. Without dissent, there is no freedom.
I can say with absolute certainty here that a majority of people on here would have absolutely gotten themselves jabbed (or bought into other forms of BS) had they not found tremendous support for their causes either online or offline. For example, majority of conservative political circles (across the globe) denounced the jab and such things together, and not necessarily because such was about discernment, but only and ONLY BECAUSE they're united in their hate for the opposition (liberals etc.). I'd like to see how many people have rejected such things when there's literally zero support on either sides of the political / religious spectrums for the same, and wherein all members of the populace are buying into the whole thing, hook, line and sinker. I myself come from one such place, so I KNOW what it takes to stand against the endless tides of opposition and being 100% ALONE while such happens. Needless to say, such ways are not for the weak and non-discerning.
If you'd like to see how said hive mentality even really works, go take a look at some of those mukbang videos (or people from x country try such and such food item for the first time) type videos, specifically when those are done within group settings. Wherein they all taste the same thing for the very first time, and, funnily enough, they ALL seem to have the exact same opinions of the said food item nearly Every.Single.Time??? Like how the FUCK is that sorta shit even possible in like, ever? It's not like we all have the exact same taste buds here or anything.
Here's a sample video, and yet another sample video of what I'm even referring to, here. Just a cu(l)t of everyone ever looking to mutually agree upon the most agreeable (to the group) sort of opinion --- so as to not risk (oh, the horror! of) invalidation. Should at the very least entertain you (if not educate you altogether), with any luck!
Well said! I used to really enjoy a YT channel...can't even remember the name any longer...but it was something like Pakistan Tribal Try, or something like that. They got these humble folks out of remote Pakistani villages to try American food, and it was absolutely awesome. My favorite was an older gentleman they'd get from some tiny village out of the mountains, and he hardly liked anything, but would always compare it to something similar they had in their village that was infinitely better. As a matter of fact, this fellow was far and above the most popular "taster" on the channel, and everyone always asked how he was doing if he didn't appear in a while. Another guy was very philosophical, and he would open his hands around the dish, and observe it and praise Allah, then proceed to give a detailed description of how it tasted to him. Wish I could find that channel again...
Thanks for the link. Actually, this channel was a second channel that came about trying to capitalize on the popularity of the channel I was talking about. I did some digging, and the channel I liked so much is called "Reactistan." I looked at their most recent videos, and they have a new crew of folks, although, happily, I see that Mustafa (the wonderful senior gentleman) is still with them. YT in their infinite wisdom changed the way my favorite channels were recommended about a year ago, and this channel was one of the casualties. If you go way back to the first Reactistan videos, they were absolute gold.
There was a spin-off channel giving a closer look at the philosophical guy I also mentioned, but I can't for the life of me remember his name. Very, very humble, and poor, but inspiring in his perspectives on life and generosity.
The Ashe experiment… people will conform socially or ageee with those around them. Incredibly hard not to, especially when it is so hard to find & discern truth or information these days. How to be sure you are actually right, or right to have doubts when virtually everyone you know, including yes experts, are all nodding their heads?
“If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, and blaming it on you”
Hard.
