The footage I first saw on nerd/popculture youtuber @heelsvsbabyface early in the morning but it has spread and there are articles about Denzel and others talking to smith with photos. Just google their names and 2022 Oscars to find the source you trust.
I just did. I interpreted your comment that Will was actually suicidal and on some ledge ready to jump and the two guys got him to come back down. That's what 'talking someone down from the ledge' meant to me.
The articles I found simply said they went and talked to him while he was seated with his wife.
It was a figure of speech and hyperbole. Fairly commonly used to when I was growing up but I guess it isnt as common now. Basically means to calm someone down.
