Don't forget there are wells that are capped and plenty of oil that can be readily accessed in case of emergency. The ANWR has tons of oil we could access pretty readily if needed. It would take a bit of development to add a pipeline to the existing trans alaska pipeline though.

ANWR is a place they have made illegal for humans to live in. An area the size of South Carolina that is off limits to human use and right next to it is Prudhoe Bay where they already get oil from.
