...why were so many of the US Founding Fathers also Freemasons? If they were, why did they put the 2nd Amendment into the Constitution, among other things? I want to be able to explain this to some friends and family, but oddly enough I trust what fellow Anons say more than I trust various "sources" and their opinions. Thanks for your insights.

Salvation is based upon the Person and works of Christ, not our own works, whether they are good or bad. If someone dies apart from Christ, the penalty is the second death, the Lake of Fire. Dying in Christ means all one's sins have been forgiven because Christ paid the full debt/penalty of sin on behalf of all his people by his death on the cross. This is the good news. It is understood by faith, which is a gift of God. God's grace is a free and full pardon none of us deserve. We are all sinners from the time we are born. We need God's forgiveness if we wish to have eternal life. Christ is the Good Shepherd, and he searches out all his sheep at the time of God's choosing. Not one sheep will be missing in the world to come. A popular hymn says:
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
God made a way for hell deserving sinners. This is the way. Praise the Lord for his mercy.
