Municipal water systems start with water from a natural source (lake, aquifer), filter it to keep the bad stuff out, add some chlorite or peroxide to sterilize it, and then it is supplied for human consumption. The sewage is treated to get the organics down to simple molecules so it can be flushed into the environment. We do not drink sewage.
