I spent 7 years in Riyadh. I have many stories. Couple things in article;
Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Saudi Sharia police)>
Also known as “Muhtawein” or “Muhtahwa”…these clowns travel in gangs and are not to be messed with. Easily ID’d, they don’t wear a hobbler or “fanbelt” on their head rag so it hangs down straight. They also don’t trim facial hair/beards. Those 2 things together and they look-like-terrorists. Their gangs travel with at least one Vice Policeman & can arrest you if you don’t comply with their caveman BS. They mainly flock wherever Western women go…the malls etc. I had a few in the Air Force unit I trained…they’re usually lower caste/class and inbred; stupid as a stone. Easily MK Ultra’d in other words. Al-Qaeda is their anti-Saud family military wing, created/centralized in a small city North of Riyadh called Buraidah.
…forcing party organisers to refill the original bottles with a local wine called Siddiqui>
“Siddiq” means friend in Arabic. We just called it sid. It’s not a wine; it’s distilled from a simple mash made out of fermented sugar & water. I had a friend who’s Thai wife’s job was keeping the 4 copper coils from the 4 stills on their stove covered in ice. They made $1.2M in 5 years making & selling sid which was more than he brought home from a lucrative Aerospace gig there. They only sold it to Americans; our strict #1 rule as workers over there. Anyway, a good cook’s product is 95-97% pure ethanol…you cut it in half before you mix a drink. The BX over where the USAF (was)…their 2 biggest selling products was real bacon and Jack Daniels wood chips for smoking meats…made from crushed JD barrels you soak your sid in a jar of them for 3 weeks and it’s about identical to JD. “Desert Jack” we called it. Bonus!!
Edit; Irregardless whether this interview happened or not; slavery is REAL over there, and nothing in the article stood out to me as being inaccurate.
