The “28” movies are good because they’re not about supernatural undead, they’re about living people who have been infected.

Walking Dead got old fast, they had to repeat the same story line over and over.
After season 3 it got woke.
Most of the modern zombie apocalypse movies use a virus as the cause. It is the most believable cuase of such a thing because viruses are just nasty to begin with, and some are indeed spread through bodily fluid contact.
Yes, the zombie movie makers often exploit a common fear of viruses, just like the covid hoaxers did.
The movie makers often have the virus be magic, though, in that it kills and then brings back to life. It gets ridiculous, defying the rules of physics, such as a skeleton moving without having any ambulatory muscles.
