The real loss is that there is less food hitting shelves, meaning its going to get more expensive. Perhaps prohibitively so, making those that can't afford enough food receptive to globohomo propaganda.
If you're starving you don't get to be picky. You think the ones willing to poison the entire population care if you starve? You're missing the point by doing a victory lap over what kind of food is getting destroyed.
