Reminds me of a story from where I live that happened in the 90's.
A man parked his car and was heading into a local bank branch office to take care of some business.
Before he could enter, alarms went off and men came running out of the bank with bags and weapons brandished.
The man heading into the bank drew his pistol and put them down.
When the question came up whether that man was going to be prosecuted or not, the local DA was quoted as saying "that's one of the reasons we have concealed carry permits. So people don't have to be victims of violent criminals."
I grew up in Miami. A neighbor of one of my best friends had their house broken into while they were home. The husband grabbed his pump shotgun and defended the house. He had bird shot loaded, and in the melee took out some door jamb and punched a hole in the wall. Wound up winging the perp. Cops show up after getting called and take him off to jail. Before the cops departed, they handed the homeowner a handful of 'melee round' shotgun shells and told him (as I was told), "Next time make sure to take them out."
Melee rounds are shells with a mix of 00 Buck and bird shot.

There was an old shot mix called "Malaya Load". It was, iirc, single 0 and #4 mix. Used by Brit troops during the "Malay Emergency".
Good spread while still keeping knockdown.
Get some of those 12 gauge, kevlar net, anti-drone rounds and choke them out bolas style.
