Doubling down means increasing efforts along the same line. Doing more of the same. So, in this context, dealing with criminals, they are giving testimony and when they double down they give MORE testimony, or what?? They are caught. Doubling down doesn't give me any mental image that makes sense. Please explain what it means to you.
