Were that empirically true, the French wouldn't have gotten their asses handed to them in every major engagement (War) in the last 120 years.
Not saying French aren't some resilient people, but the statement that they're smarter doesn't pass the Historical smell test.
France 1914: 41.5 millions inhabitants. 1.4 million French soldiers died. France won.
WW2. May 1939. In one month more than 100,000 French soldiers died.
Incorrect. France did not win, the allies won and France happened to be on the winning side. Had it not been for intervention...twice (WWI and WWII)...France would be speaking German. The other statistics mean nothing in this context and only serves to back my statement.
Here's some (very) light reading on the subject...without a lot of useless figures to muddle an otherwise clear and factual point.
