ok you are an idiot arguing with an electrical engineer that works on transmission. You know more then me, ok then.
Ah, the ad hominem attack. Not used very often among frens that probably agree on almost everything important.
Look I stated the fact that the electric grid in the USA is simply not able to carry the power that would be required to power a fraction of the vehicles replaced by electric vehicles. Upgrading would require trillions of dollars and a complete teardown and replacement from your home, the local dist, tx lines, power hubs etc. And they there is simple not enough generation available so many new power plants, you need to power them somehow by the way.
Then there is the environmental damage to mine the minerals for the batteries.
The guy just kept saying that it will happen. What will happen if gas and other fuels were to disappear tomorrow, the grid would collapse and you better have shoes and some food.
The guy knows more than me and you appear to be a smart guy like him also, did you vote for biden?
Yes it will happen.
The power supply and the grid will both be improved over time as demand for electricity outpaces supply. There have been so many times technology has driven massive changes in how we do things as a society.
It isn't like people are going to say, oh electric cars are pretty cool. Too bad we can never have them because our power generation and distribution systems are lousy cannot be improved.
That's not how it works in capitalist economies. The people get what the people want.
The internal combustion engine is a goner, at least as a mainstream method for powering vehicles. If you are an Electrical Engineer specializing in power utilities, this is a good thing for you. Your expertise will be highly sought after.
Yes it will cost money. But as the cost for power rises, that makes the power companies a more attractive investment for investors. And that is the key. It isn't taxpayer money that builds power plants and lines. It is people's retirement funds. Vast sums of money flow from one industry to another as investors see profit potential.
And it won't happen all at once. It will happen over 10 to 20 years.
But it will happen. Electric cars are smooth, quiet, fast, and low-maintenance. And most of the time you never have to go to a public charging station. Just plug it in when you get home. No more standing in the cold rain and wind. They are just better all around. And that is why the ICE is already dead.
I picture you as wearing sandals and a ponytail. Wearing a biden button and a foam helmet.
What will happen is Hydrogen vehicles and / or the goal of no private ownership of vehicles.
