"For those of you just joining us, welcome to MailOnline's live blog about the 2022 local elections.
The political picture is pretty mixed, with Boris Johnson's Tories suffering heavy losses in London but clinging onto the Red Wall.
Just minutes ago, Lilian Barker was elected for the Conservatives in the Crackley and Red Street ward in Newcastle-under-Lyme after a tiebreaker.
Election wizards say Labour's seizure of Wandsworth and Westminster, totemic London authorities which have been blue since 1978 and 1964 respectively, don't suggest they could win a general election.
And now Sir Keir Starmer is facing a police probe over his 'beergate' boozy lockdown curry.
The Prime Minister is staring down calls to quit over the London losses, dismissing last night as 'tough' and vowing to get on with delivering 'big projects' across the North of England.
Last night's big winners were the Lib Dems and the Greens, both posing as alternatives to the establishment parties.
Party leader Sir Ed Davey even urged disgruntled Tory backbenchers to push Mr Johnson 'into the abyss'.
In the capital, Sadiq Khan said Labour's route to No10 was 'through London'.
North of the border, Nicola Sturgeon's Scottish Nationalists are already crowing about Tory losses and have demanded a second independence referendum before the end of next year.
And in Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein are set to become the biggest party for the first time ever as vote counting gets underway."
I didn't vote for the first time. I didn't know who to vote for, there were no good options.
I know but that's how we ended up in this mess - years of people not voting because there were no good options. The only way to fix this is to get involved now and stay involved at the local, county, state (whatever political subdivisions) and help select who the candidates are. I don't know how it works in the UK but here your city or county conservative party is the best way to get involved. For example, our county GOP committee is having a meeting today to select county committee members. They will be crucial in either helping or hindering future candidates, selecting whether to have caucuses, primaries or conventions and so on.
And don't let anyone tell you all parties are the same. If you feel that way, then get involved and fix that problem. Let them know if they continue to compromise your rights away you're going to make sure they get a fast retirement.
I know you are right.
Same here; last time I wrote "None of the above". all the same, useful idiots.
You're supposed to draw a 6 point hexagram over it and submit it like that. It tallies as a spoiled ballot which indicates discontent and votes in real politick terms for whoever the "new" masters will be.
