"What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive” comes to mind...how complicated life becomes when people start/continue lying...
Fun Fact: The quote "Oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we start to deceive" is not by Shakespeare but by Walter Scott in his poem "Marmion." It refers to the effects of lying and how as one lie leads to more the lies multiply, and we become trapped in the dishonesty.
I've always thought Shakespeare wrote it first, but he copied it, apparently.
While you're correct that the quote comes from Marmion and not Shakespeare, Shakespeare lived about 300 years before Scott.
That's one of my favorite sayings
