First of all, I trust Norman Vincent Peale's version of the Gospel to only confuse people and not to bring them to a saving knowledge of who Christ is. Second, if you are laughing during communion, you are doing it wrong.
Communion was intended by Jesus to be a serious time of reflection on what your sin cost Jesus, and to remember His sacrifice on your behalf. (John 1:29 - 51, Isaiah 52: 13 -53, 1 Cor. 11: 23 - 34)
Part of the problem is the misunderstanding of how high the standard of holiness really is: Matthew 5: 17 - 48)
Eating and drinking unworthily is both spiritually and physically dangerous.
