If you don't already own a couple of AR"s what are you waiting for?
I hear that the AR-10's are 5 AR's better than the AR-15's
Just a larger caliber....308 as opposed to 5.56. Both have their places.
So... One or more of each is what I'm hearing?
That's up to you, just know how to use and maintain whatever you have. Even an obsolete Mosin-Nagant 7.62x54 Russian round bolt action is better than nothing.
I like the Ruger Ranch Rifle more than an AR. I own both and there are thirty round mags for both. 8^) The Ruger is also available now in 5.56 instead of .223. The Ruger is one manueverable rifle even from inside of a vehicle.
I read an article in a gum magazine some years ago (can't recall which one) that said the Ruger mini14 was good, but not up to the rigors of combat. Plus, disassembly- reassembly is a bit difficult, I have to hold my mouth just right to get that bolt assembly back in...while the AR is simplicity itself.
Mini 14 is simple to disassemble and reassemble, easier than the AR to clean. Benefit of the Mini 14 is it is built to run dirty and rarely needs to be cleaned. You can run anything through the Mini 14.

True to a point, but the article I cited said that several mini's simply broke down while putting them through field tests. And I still find the AR easier to disassemble, but to each his own.
