If I remember correctly the same statistics have been true for the last twenty years. It does not take that much money per student to educate. Audit the spending for DC school system. Make it public. Get the parents involved in the education of their children.
I believe the money is being used unwisely. Follow the money. Look for the biggest beneficiaries. Administrative costs, "special projects"....
I remember Chicago Public Schools (CPS) had more employees than students at one point... I think that was in 2006? They have their own dedicated highrise downtown. At least one third of their schools were vacant, unused but keeping them maintained and conditioned, yet we were building new and expanding existing facilities back then.
"Education spending" is a lot like "defense spending". It's a misnomer. "Education spending" includes teacher salaries, building maintenance, school supplies, curriculum...but it also includes diversity consultants, paying six figure administrator salaries for do-nothing jobs, CRT curriculum, fancy retreats for bigwigs, six figure do nothing jobs for favored crony pals, etc etc.
I remember one community college they had a lesbian as president. President Lesbo and her "wife" got to travel to China for a "women's education" conference for the whole summer. The school paid for their house and a luxury car for both "wives", expensive travel junkets, etc.
All of that follows "education spending" and that's why the left wants more of it. It's a slush fund for leftist interests. I know of one large school district that paid millions of dollars for "white privilege" consultants to come in and put on mandatory workshops. How much you want to bet the scam artist "consultants" were offering huge kickbacks to school board members?

Maybe it's the demographics of the DC Public school.... Naaah, that can't be it...
...compelling observation....
Districts that crow about the most “spending er pupil” is their of covering for the fact that most of the spending is not going towards pupils.
...exactly....
Now do the prisoners! Granted there are more students but why should we spend more per prisoner than student, regardless of the number of each.
...valid observation....
Somebody has to pay off the abused children.
