With the lesser availability of baby formula (junk food, poor nourishment), probably a lot of mothers are scrambling to find something else. First, I had forgotten but mothers CAN restart or start their own milk supply. Look for restarting breastfeeding, inducing lactation, re-lactation on youtube.
Secondly, ThePatriotNurse has an excellent video on this subject found here, sorry for the youtube link, couldn’t find another.
Third, one of my go-to sites for stellar nutritional information-- (www.westonaprice.org)--recommends two books that are FREE and downloadable, The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby and Child Care and Nourishing Traditions. They can be found here and here.
My babies are all grown now but I wanted to say that the Nourishing Traditions cookbook is wonderful- it has far more than recipes for baby formula. I had no clue it was available for download! I'm on my second hard copy of it having worn out the original I bought years ago. It teaches you how to cook real food with traditional methods and is full of tons of little tidbits of info about traditional food, etc. I would recommend it to anyone.
I won't lie and say that I was able to feed my family exclusively in the Nourishing Traditions way when bringing up our kids, but we did always try to eat real whole foods- I baked, we raised a garden and had dairy goats and chickens when our kids were young, etc. But some of my kids' favorite recipes from childhood came from that cookbook.
Another good cookbook that utilizes whole foods would be "Whole Foods for the Whole Family" by Roberta Bishop Johnson and put out by La Leche League in the early 80s. Some of the nutrition info in it is dated but the ingredients are all real, whole foods. The book is getting hard to find and can be relatively expensive but it's worth it.
Yes, it's so full of great information. I knew nothing about that when I raised my kids....LOL!
That's great information. I've heard of mothers nursing up to 3 years old.
I've heard that as well. Yes, we are fortunate to have access to it.
Research fenugreek...increases milk production in many...for centuries
Yes, excellent herb. However, if a woman began with formula from the start, something else would be required to either induce lactation or make one's own healthful formula.
Right!
In the old days, women who couldn't breastfeed used wet nurses.
There is a simple recipe for homemade formula, but everyone goes apoplectic over the ingredients: evaporated milk, 2 teaspoons of Karo syrup, and enough water to make a quart. They eat fruit by the pound, but think the fructose in that little bit of syrup spread over half a dozen milk bottles is going to kill a baby. Not so. It's a lot better than starving.
A "sugar tit" or teat if yer a farmer
It may be better than starving but it's a very poor and very unhealthful substitute for the real thing
But millions of people were raised on that formula.
Yes, I was one of them. It isn't rocket science for women to use their God-given equipment. It's unfortunate that our overlords have worked for many years telling women that what "science" creates is the best. Where have we heard that before???? What comes from breastfeeding is superior to what is produced by industry, for so many reasons.
Ever read the ingredients in infant formula? It's milk, sugar, soy and safflower oil, and vitamins.

I sure have; my kids never had that crap.
Yes there are several reasons one might not be able to breast feed. There is no doubt that moms can make their own formula. What I would love to see is moms making their own and cancelling the baby formula companies via boycott.
Besides the FDA's games with Abbott (though there are other makers of the milk), the fact that shelves were emptied for the benefit of illegals' kids, and the rumors that FDA/CDC plan to incorporate 'other' ingredients ...... GO WOKE, GO BROKE.
Yes, some mothers genuinely have breastfeeding issues but I think that, for the most part, women have been told for many years that bottle feeding is better. When I was breastfeeding my little ones years ago, I was the only one around doing so; I'd also chosen to do the Lamaze birthing--again, a party of one.
For the women who don't have another choice, I so agree with you--make your own out of truly healthy ingredients, not the slop that's been done for so long. We have been lied to for a very long time. The fact that the invaders are "benefiting" over our own young is preposterously criminal.
